Shabbat SYNERGY

It's about Shabbat + Energy

+ You + Community

What is Shabbat Synergy?

Shabbat SYNERGY is a program to make the celebration of Shabbat much more than a "one size fits all" service. Shabbat SYNERGY will feature our Shabbat Unplugged service and our traditional service, but we will add still other opportunities for prayer, learning, and experiencing the joy of being together as a community for Shabbat.

The evening will begin with a "happy hour" for adults to unwind and prepare to enter Shabbat free from the daily grind. For young children we will have Shabbat-themed activities. For those whose spiritual energy comes from yoga or Torah study or from a discussion of the issues of the day, there will be activities and worship services just for you.

Shabbat SYNERGY will be held on Friday, October 24, Friday, January 23 and Friday, March 27.

Schedule

The Recovery of Jewish Rituals

Friday, April 24, 2009

Be part of an evening of choices! Come for all or part of the evening and welcome Shabbat with us.

5:30 p.m. Wine and Cheese Happy Hour • Kabbalat Shabbat Service

6 p.m. Shabbat Dinner (Make reservations by Wednesday, April 22)

7 p.m. For Adults:

Reclaiming the Mikveh: Sisterhood has invited Jen Eichberg and Alan Shackelford who have gone to the mikveh to mark special occasions in their lives, and Cynthia Heller from Jewish Family Services, to talk about use of the mikveh after life-changing events.

Recovery of Jewish Rituals (Presented by our clergy) As the pendulum swings back toward traditional Judaism, what rituals had Reform Jews let go of that we now are integrating back into practice?

The Sanctity of Sex: Long before Dr. Ruth made sex popular, the sages of Jewish tradition gave careful consideration to the role that sex plays in creating intimacy. Rabbi Jordan Friedman will guide us through Jewish texts that were surely too "dirty for school" as we consider how sexual relationships help us to find deeper intimacy with our partners and appreciate the holiness of every human act. Due to the mature content of this program, only adults are invited to attend.

Shabbat Yoga with Robin Secher: Unwind and stretch out with some yoga poses with a Jewish flair.

For Kids: Maintaining Rituals as You Grow Up for 8-18 Year Olds • Shabbat Cookie-Decorating and Stories for 2-7 Year Olds

7:45 p.m. Worship Services: Shabbat Unplugged • Mishkan T’filah

Dinner Prices: Members: $13 for adults, $7 for kids (5-12 years old) • Non-members: $18 for adults, $9 for kids
