  Social Justice Opportunities at Temple
We have many on-going social justice projects. Pick one and get involved!

Fabric related projects – Sponsored by Sisterhood. Knitting or crocheting scarves for the homeless. Making fleece blankets for African refugees. Also includes collecting hats & gloves and other cold weather gear. Ongoing projects throughout the year. Other organizations that benefit: Children’s Hospital, Denver Health, Ronald McDonald House, youth homeless shelters. Contact: Alla Sonkina.

Mitzvah Projects by grade – Sponsored by the Religious School. Each grade has a mitzvah theme and projects related to the theme. Projects support groups such as Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital, The Gathering Place, Urban Peak, Shalom Park and the Jewish Family Service Weinberg Pantry. Contact: Rita Dahlke.

Darfur & South Sudan – Continuing to advocate and educate on behalf of this issue. Also participate in local events to publicize the plight of these populations and educate our government representatives. Contact: Bobbi Furer.

Monthly Collection Drives – Sponsored by the Preschool. Monthly drives to collect requested items to support various children’s organizations. Contact: Sylvia Scher.

Agahazo Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda – a partnership with the Joint Distribution Committee , modeling a boarding school for orphans and traumatized children after the Yemin Orde School in Israel. Contact: Sue Stark.

"Nothing But Nets" – Sponsored by Friedman Club and Social Justice Committee. On going fund raising projects to purchase mosquito nets in Africa to stop the spread of malaria. Contact: Heather Feinberg or Pamm Gross.

K'VOD Catering – Prepare and serve a cooked meal and sack lunch for the homeless. Meets every other Sunday morning to cook and same afternoon to serve. Contact: Jean Karner, 303.333.0656.

Yom Kippur Food Drive – Sponsored by Friedman Club. Collect bags of food on Yom Kippur for donation to the JFS Weinberg food pantry. Contact: Heather Feinberg.

Matanah Project – Sponsored by Sisterhood in conjunction with the Religious School. Collect age appropriate gifts for children in local shelters for distribution during December. Contact: Pamm Gross.

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice - Coalition of more than 40 denominations and faith groups educates and promotes issues of reproductive choice. The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice brings the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. Literacy Project – Sponsored by Sisterhood. Tutoring students at Cole K–8 School on a weekly basis. Also collect new books for distribution at the end of the school year. Contact: Belina Fruitman.

Ronald McDonald House Dinners – Usually the 3rd Sunday of the month. Help prepare and serve dinner to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Contact: Karyn Gueck.

Habitat Interfaith Alliance – Interfaith coalition building several Habitat for Humanity homes each year. Contact: Valerie Searns.

"Temple Tuna" – collecting tuna fish all year long to provide a source of protein to the JFS Weinberg Pantry. Put your tuna into the bins at the Grape and Forest Street entrances.

Mitzvah Day - May 20, 2012 . Projects in the past have included gardening, painting, cooking, nursing home visits, and mailings for non-profit organizations. Contact: Sarah Goldblatt.

Purim Carnival Blood Drive – Sponsored annually by the Brotherhood. Benefiting Bonfils Blood Center. Contact: Matthew Heit.

9Health Fair – Sponsored by the Brotherhood. Contact: Gary Friedland.
