Meet Our Shwayder Rosh Hashanah High Holiday Team


Jo-Ellen Unger

Jo-Ellen Unger is the founding director of the URJ 6 Points Creative Arts Academy. She attended the Performing and Visual Arts Center (now New World School of the Arts) in Miami, Florida, the Fine Arts program at Florida State University, and the National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York City. She has held positions in camping and youth and served as a formal and informal education director in Florida and Maryland, both in the congregational world and Hillel. She is a graduate of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, where she earned a Master of Arts in Religious Education. She had the privilege of serving as the 2019 Zeldin Alumni Scholar-in-Residence for the School of Education at HUC-JIR and was named a 2020 Distinguished Educator by the Association of Reform Jewish Educators. She currently sits on that organization’s board and is the immediate past co-Chair of The HUC-JIR School of Education Alumni Association.  Jo-Ellen was born in Denver and named at Temple Emanuel, where her father, Rabbi Lewis C. Littman (z”l), was an assistant rabbi after ordination from HUC-JIR.  She is looking forward to returning and sharing Rosh Hashanah with the Temple Emanuel community.

Ev Evnen

Ev (they/them) is a white, Jewish, trans person, originally from Lincoln, NE, with a decade stop in Boston. Ev is an experienced facilitator on issues including racial justice, trauma inclusivity, LGBTQ+ topics, and how we have difficult conversations across differences. Ev has been a High Holiday Chazzan for six years and is thrilled to be returning to Shwayder Camp for the second year. Ev is also a group leader for a transgender Jewish youth group run through Moving Traditions and a teacher at the Temple Emanuel Religious School. Ev holds an MPP and MBA from the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis and a BA from Wesleyan University. They live in Denver with their two scruffy dogs, Max and Ziggy.
