Shabbat Shira with Michael Ochs

6:00 PM - 7:30 PMShabbat Shira – Shabbat of Song with Special Guest Composer Michael Hunter Ochs!
Shabbat Shira is when we read from the Torah the powerful story of the Israelites crossing the Sea of Reeds from slavery to freedom, and, in their joy, breaking into joyous song. This dramatic moment is traditionally linked to a celebration of the power of music and song, highlighting the idea that music can unite us as a community. This year, we lift up Shabbat Shira by welcoming esteemed composer Michael Hunter Ochs, who has been commissioned by Temple to write a new piece based on the text of Psalm 150 in honor of Temple’s 150th anniversary. Michael will join our full clergy team, our incredible band, strings, and High Holy Day Choir in leading our Shabbat service and for the debut of this wonderful new piece.
Michael will also join Rabbi Joseph Black and Cantorial Soloist Steve Brodsky for the Shabbat Morning Community Service on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 am, where he will share more of his music and deliver the d’var Torah, speaking about the inspiration and evolution of his new commissioned piece for Temple Emanuel.
