Tzedakah – “The charity that is righteousness”

All significant institutions of culture and learning require supplemental operating funds, and our Temple is no exception. Inspiring worship led by devoted clergy; educational programs for tots, children, teens and adults; cultural and social action offerings; and the preservation of our magnificent building, all depend on the support of caring individuals. Honor a special occasion or remember a loved one by making a contribution to one of the funds at Temple Emanuel. Each gift makes possible all that we do today and prepares us for an ever more promising tomorrow.

Please contact Francie Miran, Development Director, at miran@emanueldenver.org or 303-388-4013, ext. 335, for more information about these options.

Purchase Sanctuary Plaques

A meaningful way to mark a celebration of a lifecycle event or to memorialize a loved one is by dedicating a plaque that will be affixed to the back of an existing seat in the sanctuary. Whether it celebrates a Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, birth of a child or grandchild, wedding, special birthday, anniversary, or other extraordinary event/honor, you can share your joy with our synagogue community in a permanent way. L’dor v’dor this will tell the story of your family.

This is also a way to turn a loved one's memory into a lasting legacy for our congregation. Future generations will read these inscriptions with pride, telling the stories of the individuals who have come before.

Gifts of Securities

Gifts of securities are an excellent way for you to support Temple Emanuel and potentially enjoy tax benefits. Consult with your financial advisor about these and other tax-advantageous ways of making a gift to Temple Emanuel. For additional information and necessary forms, please contact Francie Miran, Development Director, at 303-388-4013 ext. 335.

Appreciated Securities

When you donate shares of stock or mutual funds that have appreciated in value since their purchase, you:

  • Make a generous gift to Temple Emanuel
  • Receive a charitable income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities at the time of donation (if you have owned the shares longer than one year)
  • Avoid the capital gains tax you would incur if you sold the shares instead of donating them
  • May carry forward any deductions in excess of 30% of your adjusted gross income for up to five additional years.

Depreciated Securities

If you have securities that have decreased in value since you purchased them, consider selling them and making a tax deductible gift of the cash proceeds. You may then be able to deduct the loss from other taxable income. The combined tax benefits of the charitable donation in cash and the capital loss may actually exceed the current value of the investment.

Create a Lasting Legacy Through an Estate Gift

The very future of the Jewish people depends on the strength, vitality and relevance of our synagogues. As we have been for more than 100 years, so shall we continue to be the heart and soul of our community.

An estate gift can be the perfect way to strengthen our Jewish community in permanent ways.  Your gift will:

  • Continue your support of the values and causes that Temple Emanuel represents.
  • Create a lasting tribute to honor family, friends, and loved ones.
  • Leave the world a better place and make a difference: tikkun olam.

Temple Emanuel created the Live On Society to honor and recognize those who remember the synagogue in their estate plans. Any estate or endowment gift entitles the donor to become a current member of the Live On Society. This provides us with an opportunity to say “thank you” during a person’s life.

There are many different types of estate gifts that will help build and strengthen a permanent endowment for Temple Emanuel and our Jewish community. Please be sure to consult with your financial and legal advisors in order to determine which gifts make sense for your situation.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Francie Miran, Development Director, at miran@emanueldenver.org or 303-388-4013, x335. There are no expectations or obligations to complete any gift.
