High Holy Days Information and Schedule 2021

07/01/2021 04:21:18 PM

Jul1

It is hard to believe that in a little over two months we will be coming together for the High Holy Days. One of the key prayers of this holy time is the Hashiveynu. The words “Return to us O God; renew our days as of old” have special significance as we all return to our beautiful Temple to worship and reconnect.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have often been compared to a family reunion. We come together and reunite with family, friends, community, and God. After so many months of isolation, the thought of returning to our beautiful sanctuary is both exciting and daunting. And yet, we know that the resilience and strength of this congregation will enable us to experience the power, beauty and spirituality of our High Holy Days in new and exciting ways while also holding on to the traditions that have been hallmarks of our congregation for almost 150 years.

Below is some initial information on the vision and details of our High Holy Days this year. We will continue to be in touch throughout the summer.

HEALTH AND SAFETY – REGISTERING FOR THE HIGH HOLY DAYS

  • We will welcome in-person worship in our Sanctuary at up to 60% capacity.
  • We ask that those who plan to attend in-person be fully vaccinated.
  • All members who wish to attend in-person worship will be required to register in advance. You will not receive tickets in the mail – you must register online. High Holy Day Registration for members will open on Monday, August 2nd, 2021.
  • Members-only registration will be open from August 2nd - August 22nd. At this time, members will also be able to register a limited number of guests.
  • Registration for the broader community will open on Monday, August 23rd, 2021.
  • All registration for all events will require you to login to ShulCloud. If you have not done so, please do before or contact us for help at 303-388-4013.

WORSHIP AND LEARNING – IN-PERSON AND STREAMED

  • We are excited to announce that all of our worship services will be streamed and publicly available, thanks to a generous gift from the Reynolds Family Foundation.
  • The Sanctuary carpet and chairs have been beautifully updated following the flood in the Sanctuary last December.
  • Similar to last year, each of our worship services will include a blend of traditional and contemporary music and liturgy. For each holiday, Service 1 and Service 2 will be exactly the same service.
  • Yizkor services will take place in each of the two Yom Kippur Morning Services (NOT in the afternoon service as in the past). This change will allow us to accommodate more people in-person for Yizkor.
  • We look forward to once again welcoming our emeritus clergy to lead and inspire us during our Yizkor service.

YOUTH AND FAMILY

  • We will offer a Rosh HaShanah and a Yom Kippur Family Service at a new family-friendly early morning time of 8:30 - 9:15 a.m. These services will take place in our outdoor tent.
  • We also will be offering a “High Holy Day Family Festival” on Sunday, September 12th. More information coming soon!
  • Since children under the age of 12 will not yet have access to vaccines, and in order to control the number of people in our building, our Reopening Task Force has decided that we will not be offering the High Holy Day Experience and the High Holy Day Youth Project for pre-school and elementary-aged children this year during adult worship.

ROSH HASHANAH AT SHWAYDER IS BACK!

  • Rosh HaShanah at Shwayder will happen again this year! More information on registration will be forthcoming.
  • It is bittersweet to announce that because of his responsibilities at Temple, Steve Brodsky, our beloved Cantorial Soloist and Music Director, will be stepping down from officiating at Rosh HaShanah at Shwayder this year. We are excited to introduce our new Rosh HaShanah at Shwayder leadership team in the coming weeks.

We are so looking forward to coming together and seeing so many of you in person and online. Look for more information about the High Holy Days in eNotes throughout the summer.

We cannot wait to return together!

L’Shalom (In Peace),

Senior Rabbi Joseph Black
