Hebrew Curriculum
Our Hebrew Program philosophy is students learn better in small groups with hands on activities to promote multisensory learning. Students learn better with feedback on a regular basis from their teachers. Students will learn better with practice between sessions.
Hebrew Goals
- Students will learn and decode the Aleph Bet
- Students will put letters and vowels to form syllables/words
- Students will recognize and understand the Blessing formula (Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech haolam)
- Students will recognize the structure of Hebrew words (prefixes, suffixes, and root words)
- Students will be able to decode prayers unfamiliar to themselves
- Students will have a solid foundation of the prayer service of our congregation
- Students will understand Hebrew connects all Jews
Pre-K - 3rd Grade
Hebrew Through Movement
4th and 5th Grade
- Each trimester focuses on the Alef Bet or a Prayer
- Solid decoding skills through hands on activities
- Accountability – must meet a certain level of proficiency before moving on to the next session/prayer
- If a student does not pass - the student will work with a staff member (teacher or madrichim) to gain the skills to enter the next class with his/her peers.
- Individualized help available weekly
- Practice pages/flash cards sent home for additional review
6th and 7th Grade
- All prayers needed for B’nai Mitzvah will be worked on in small groups
- Several prayers available each trimester
- Accountability - Students will master the prayer level before moving on to the next prayer
- If a student does not pass - the student will work with a staff member (teacher or madrichim) to gain the skills to enter the next class with his/her peers.
- Hands on activities
- Individualized help available weekly
- Practice pages sent home for additional review
